Both houses of the California state legislature
have passed a bill requiring that health insurance companies
help pay for the costly devices for children.
The state Assembly passed a bill that
would require insurance companies to help pay for hearing
aids for deaf and hard-of-hearing children.
State Sen. Jack Scott introduced the
bill in 2002 after Burbank resident Susan Grafman told
Scott that her insurance policy did not cover the cost
of hearing aids for her two children.
There is a two week cooling off period
between passage of the bill and when the bill can either
be signed, vetoed, or become law without the signature
of the governor. The last time the bill was introduced
it was vetoed by the governor. Californians are hopeful
that this time he will sign it into law.
