May

May is Better Hearing and Speech Month

HLAA is proud to be a part of the Council for Better Hearing and Speech Month. Since 1927 May has been the month devoted to hearing and speech. This is the month to check your hearing. This is the month to go with a family member to get their hearing checked. Checking our hearing should be routine like checking our blood pressure - no shame attached to it, no sense of feeling old - just part of good health care. Make May 2008 the month you take that first step to hear better.

Cochlear Americas Hosts Social Media Summit on Hearing Loss
National Survey Findings on Advanced Hearing Loss Unveiled

WHAT:                   What sounds do those with advanced hearing loss miss most? Which relationships are most at-risk as a result of advanced hearing loss?

Cochlear Americas, the world leader in cochlear implant technology, invites bloggers, patients and social media experts to attend an exclusive online interactive session where they will unveil the answers to these questions in an effort to shine a light on the realities of hearing loss during National Better Hearing and Speech Month. The national survey findings will expose what sound means to those with advanced hearing loss, the ability it has to evoke certain emotions and the importance it has on personal relationships of friends, family members and colleagues.

Emmy award nominee and actress-singer, Kassie DePaiva of “One Life to Live” whose son, J.Q. DePaiva, was born deaf but can now hear with the help of a cochlear implant, will also share her inspirational story.
