WASHINGTON, DC, May 24, 2012 — On May 16, the Friends of the Congressional Hearing Health Caucus (FCHHC) hosted a Hearing Forum and Reception for Representatives, Congressional staff and others interested in hearing health. At the event which was organized by Hearing Industries Assn (HIA), visitors could have their hearing screened by hearing professionals, test the volume of their Music Player ear buds using a testing dummy provided by the American-Speech-Language-Hearing Assn (ASHA), and participate in a video otoscope demonstration using equipment provided by MedRX, Largo, FL.
The otoscope demonstrations were conducted by a group of audiologists with the Hearing Center of Excellence; Colonel Vickie Tuten, AuD, Major Scott Forbes, AuD, and Major Ryan Mills, AuD, while hearing screenings were conducted by Mike Canary, Jr., BC-HIS, Canary Hearing Aid Centers; Earl Harley, MD, Georgetown University Hospital; Hung Jeffrey Kim, MD, Georgetown University Hospital; and Therese Walden, AuD, Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Representatives of the National Institute of Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) also hosted an interactive display during the event. Reps Tom Latham (IA-4) and Carolyn McCarthy (NY-4), co-chairmen of the Congressional Hearing Health Caucus (CHHC) and lead sponsors of the Hearing Aid Tax Credit, helped to organize the event and stopped by to greet the hearing health advocates in attendance.
