HLAA received a letter from Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Julius Genachowski inviting us once again to serve as a voting member of the FCC’s Consumer Advisory Committee (CAC) until the charter ends in October 2014.
The CAC serves the FCC by helping the FCC ensure that all Americans have access to modern communication services. The CAC provides input to the FCC, providing input on the regulatory process and assessing the impact of their decisions on the consumer communities. The FCC seeks participation in the CAC of people with disabilities and underserved populations such as Native Americans and persons living in rural areas. Other disability organizations invited include Deaf and Hard of Hearing Consumer Advocacy Network (DHHCAN), the Helen Keller National Center for Deaf-Blind Youth and Adults, and American Foundation for the Blind. Consumer organizations include American Consumer Institute, Consumer Federation of America, and National Consumers league. Industry members include CTIA, Time-Warner, and T-Mobile.
