Should I wait to book my hotel and airline reservations so that prices will come down?

Hotel accommodations: Hearing Loss Association of America has blocked rooms at favorable rates for a limited time. It is important that you reserve your room(s) by May 10th to insure that you receive the discounted rates.

Airfare: Book your airline ticket(s) early. If you wait, you may pay a much higher ticket price.

Why are the rates at some hotels so high?

Hearing Loss Association of America negotiates the lowest hotel rates possible, but ultimately, hotel rates are based on supply and demand. It is important that you book your accommodations through the HLAA room block so that you receive the discounted rates.

Airline travel is time consuming and complicated. How can I simplify my trip?

Airline travel can be more time consuming and complicated due to increased security. Check with your selected airline, travel agency, or local airport about what to expect.

The Transportation Security Administration offers information on air travel security measures and screening tips for persons with disabilities.

Purchase tickets early and use e-tickets or curbside check-in when available.

Nine major airlines currently provide service to and from Reno-Tahoe International Airport.

How do I find transportation to and from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport?

The Grand Sierra Resort and Casino offers complimentary airport shuttle service to and from Reno-Tahoe International Airport. The shuttles are first come-first served and are for individual transfers.

The Shuttle leaves the hotel on the hour and half hour, daily between 5:00am and 11:30pm.

The Shuttle leaves from the exit located at the far end of airport baggage claim every 15 and 45 minutes past the hour daily between 5:15am and 11:45pm.

Taxi and paid shuttle service are also available. Visit the Reno-Tahoe International Airport website for details.

There are also several Rental Car Companies servicing the area.

Smoking is allowed ONLY in the casino area and the bars/cocktail lounges that have gaming and DO NOT serve food.

The hotel has approximately 2,000 seats available in 10 Restaurants ranging from fast food to fine dining.

What are the requirements for attending the convention?

Anyone can attend the convention. However, all attendees are required to register and pay the appropriate fees either in advance or on-site.

Who attends the convention?

The Hearing Loss Association of America Convention is attended by people who have hearing loss and their family and friends, as well as healthcare, education, human resources, and vocational professionals.

What should I wear?

We want you to relax and be comfortable. That’s why business casual or casual attire is suggested for most daily activities. Some events and parties may call for more casual or formal attire. You will be in climate-controlled area, but when you venture out, be prepared for a possible change in the weather. Daily averages for Reno in June range from a high of 83° to a low of 47°.

Will continuing education units (CEU) be offered at the convention?

We will apply for CEUs for the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) and the American Academy of Audiology (AAA).

Are cameras allowed on the exhibit hall floor or in the workshops?

Media are required to obtain passes if planning to take photographs during the convention. Exhibitors and attendees may take pictures within the Exhibit Hall for purposes of company or annual reports, company media pieces, marketing materials, etc. Attendees must ask for exhibitor permission to photograph a booth. Under no circumstance will anyone be permitted to take pictures of an exhibitor's product without the permission of the exhibitor. Some of the products on display at the convention are unique, innovative, one-of-a-kind or prototype items. Exhibitors have the right to report to security any instance of inappropriate photographing of company products or displays. As a courtesy to the speakers, photography is not permitted during the workshops, meetings, or keynote address except by the official show photographer.

After registering for the convention, how soon will I receive confirmation?

Online registrants will receive an immediate confirmation. Please print your online confirmation and retain it for your records. Please allow 4-6 weeks to receive your written confirmation if registering via mail or fax.

When will I receive my convention badge?

We look forward to welcoming you to the Hearing Loss Association of America Convention 2008. Each attendee must check-in at the HLAA Convention Registration Desk located at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino. At that time, you will receive your badge, a convention program and tote, and other useful information about the convention. Your badge will not be mailed to you.

Why do convention registration rates sometimes increase from year to year?

Registration rate increases reflect the costs associated with producing the convention program. These costs increase from year to year. Sponsorships and convention donations do not cover all of the substantial costs associated with producing the convention. Registration fees are used to present an accessible and educational program to those affected by hearing loss. To help keep the cost of registration affordable, the Hearing Loss Association of America offers early registration discounts and packages.

No, Hearing Loss Association of America offers one-day packages for attendees who cannot attend the entire convention.

You can take advantage of registration discounts when you register by May 18th.  Plus, you help us prepare accordingly by registering in advance.

What is the cancellation policy for convention registration?

The following policy applies to refunds of registration fees including banquet and special event tickets:

If a registrant cancels on or before January 15, 2008, they will be refunded the full amount less a $50 cancellation fee.

If a registrant cancels between February 16 and March 31, 2008, they will be refunded 75% of their registration fees.

If a registrant cancels between April 1 and May 15, 2008, they will be refunded 50% of their registration fees.

Cancellations made on or after May 16, 2008 will not be refunded.

Cancellations must be received in writing. Cancellation dates will be determined by post marks or email receipt date.

Can students attend the convention?

Yes, students can attend the convention. Hearing Loss Association of America offers student registration rates.

Please send a photocopy of your current student identification card with your pre-registration or bring your I.D. with you for on-site registration.

The convention program is divided into four tracks covering a range of subject matters.

Programming information will be posted on the HLAA website as it becomes available. A complete Exhibit & Program Guide will be given to attendees at the on-site HLAA Convention Registration Desk.

Is the convention accessible?

All sessions, workshops, and major events are real-time captioned. Personal Assisted Listening Devices (ALDs) are also provided by request at the HLAA Registration Desk. Interpreting services are provided at all plenary sessions.

If you have assistive listening devices that you can use during the Convention, please bring them with you. 

The hotel is compliant with all ADA regulations.
