HLAA Executive Director Barbara Kelley spoke with Colleen Chapman on Episode Two of Frequency Therapeutics “Overheard at Frequency” podcast. The conversation focused on advocacy victories and ongoing HLAA efforts, the impact of hearing loss on lives and careers of those at all ages and the dynamic work of local HLAA Chapters. HLAA Chapters are a place where people can find information and support.
As Colleen shared, “Hearing loss will ultimately affect four times as many people in the U.S. as cancer.”
“Hearing health has now started being considered as part of overall health. Hearing health creates connections that cannot be replaced,” said Barbara Kelley, executive director of HLAA.
HLAA’s Externally-Led Patient-Focused Drug Development Meeting was also discussed. “Through the EL-PFDD meeting, I heard more stories about those living with hearing loss. Hearing from others helps to push solutions to hearing loss forward,” said Barbara Kelley.
So, what’s next for hearing health? Technology is one piece of the puzzle. HLAA also looks forward to seeing more people be able to live well with hearing loss when over-the-counter hearing aids become available for only those with mild to moderate hearing loss. “I dream that we have more solutions and treatments for hearing loss,” said Barbara Kelley.
