“Let’s Talk!” with award-winning social worker Miriam Zadek

“Let’s talk about being hard-of-hearing,” says Ms. Zadek. “Let’s talk about what you – the members of our audience – want to talk about regarding hearing loss.”

Born hearing, Miriam Zadek was raised with two sisters born deaf as a result of a family genetic disorder. Inspired by their condition, she graduated from Barnard College, and earned a master’s degree in Social Work from Columbia University. Ms. Zadek became certified by Gallaudet to help the hard of hearing with their communication needs. She was a social worker at HASA for 19 years and helped found the American Sign Language interpreting program there (CIRS). She also served HASA as a member of the Board for 25 years. Ms. Zadek has worn hearing aids for the last 12 years!

HLAA-GBC meetings are FREE and open to adults of all ages. Captioning and ASL interpretation will be provided; the room is equipped with a hearing loop system to ensure full communication access for all attendees.
