The Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) is a vast community of support with various communications, meetings and events happening across the U.S. Although specific objectives may vary, the overall goal of any HLAA outreach is to educate, advocate and empower people with—and at risk of—hearing loss.

HLAA is committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members and guests during meetings, events, and any interactions associated with our organization. We believe in mutual respect, open communication, and a supportive and safe atmosphere. Opinions of individuals may not represent those of HLAA.

To ensure the comfort and safety of everyone involved, all members and guests should follow these guidelines for all HLAA events, materials and outreach:

  1. Respect for Others: Treat all members and guests with kindness, empathy, and respect, regardless of their background, identity, or beliefs.
  2. Inclusive Language: Avoid words or actions that discriminate or marginalize individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, religion, etc.
  3. Active Listening: Listen respectfully to others and allow everyone the opportunity to express thoughts without interruption.
  4. Constructive Communication: Disagreements are natural, but they should be expressed respectfully and without personal attacks.
  5. Confidentiality: Don’t share sensitive or personal information without consent.
  6. Compliance with Policies: Follow guidelines during all meetings, events and on all communication channels.
  7. Safety and Well-being: Report any concerns regarding inappropriate behavior, harassment, or safety issues to the appropriate HLAA representative.
  8. Accessibility: Ensure that meetings and events are accessible to individuals with hearing loss or other disabilities.
  9. Professionalism: Refrain from disruptive or inappropriate behavior that may detract from the purpose of HLAA activities.
  10. Continuous Improvement: Help create a welcoming and supportive environment where all individuals feel valued and included.

Thank you for your cooperation and contribution to our shared mission of support, advocacy, and empowerment for individuals with hearing loss.
