The Psychology of Hearing Loss explored hearing loss from a biopsychosocial perspective with particular attention to individual development and personal experience. Feelings and behaviors associated with hearing loss were explored with additional information on special populations including Veterans and users of cochlear implants.

Don Doherty is a retired Marine Corps combat Veteran (1965-1987) who lost his hearing in Vietnam. He has worn hearing aids since June 1970 and received a cochlear implant in 2020. He retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs in 2016 after 25 years’ service.  He was the education specialist for the National Chaplain Training Center which served more than 1,100 Department of Veterans Affairs Chaplains at over 153 Veterans Affairs Medical Centers nationwide. Don is actively involved with HLAA and has been a member for more than 25 years.
