The Power of “CODA”

The Apple TV+ film “CODA” captured the hearts of many and was recognized as Best Picture at the Oscars. The Oscars are presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. This moving story about a Child of Deaf Adults (CODA) made me laugh and cry. The performance of the Joni Mitchell song “Both Sides Now” by actress Emilia Jones, who plays Ruby Rossi, perfectly captures the emotional tone and themes of the film.
Deaf actor Troy Kotsur won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role as the deaf father in “CODA.” Troy says in his acceptance speech, “I just want to say that this is dedicated to the Deaf community, the ‘CODA’ community and the disabled community. This is our moment!” The movie “CODA” also won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay (Sian Heder).
