On September 19, HLAA received the good news that the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was presenting its annual Coalition Partner award to HLAA during the agency’s 19th annual Disability and Multicultural Coalition Conference.

TSA noted in their press release that they recognized the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) for “significant and exemplary collaboration during the past year. HLAA conducted training webinars for TSA staff on hearing loss, provided best practices for engaging with travelers with hearing loss and best practices for COVID-19 screening considerations including the issues staff need to be aware of when wearing masks. HLAA also provided data collected directly from consumer surveys as well as information on consumers’ experiences to better enable TSA to work directly with travelers with hearing loss.”

HLAA is pleased to work with TSA, providing information and education to TSA staff about hearing loss and how to communicate with people with hearing loss. As a result of our years of work with the Disability and Multicultural Coalition, the TSA website includes tips and information about going through TSA checkpoints for people with hearing loss. HLAA has partnered with the TSA Disability and Medical Condition Coalition since its inception and plans to continue to do so. If you have feedback for TSA, feel free to contact HLAA or TSA to make sure your concerns are known.
